Evens Laroche, a fourth–year forward with the Concordia Stingers, was named to the CIS second all-Canadian team announced on the eve of the men’s basketball national championship in Halifax.
Laroche, a native of Montreal, finished the season with an average of 13.3 points and 7.0 rebounds a game. He also averaged 2.6 steals a game which is tops in the Quebec conference and second in the CIS rankings.
He was the RSEQ MVP this season. Laroche was also named Concordia Male Athlete of the Week six times.
“His biggest asset is his athletic ability,” said Concordia head coach John Dore. “He has the ability to play all five positions and has for us this year. He scores inside and outside. He rebounds. He defends. He can do it all. Every time he is on the court he makes positive things happen.”
It is the first all-Canadian recognition for Laroche who was the only Stinger named to the RSEQ first all-star team. It was his second all-star honour. He was also a first team all-star in 2010.
Laroche’s outstanding play and leadership were instrumental in helping the Stingers finish first in the Quebec conference with a 14-2 win-loss record. He also led Concordia to semifinal and championship victories in league playoffs.
