The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team will get a jump on the 2013 season with a couple of preseason games versus American teams in the next few days.
Tonight at 7, Concordia hosts the Sacred Heart University Pioneers, a NCAA Division 1 team that plays in the Northeast Conference (NEC).
The Pioneers are wrapping up a five-game swing through Montreal and Quebec City. They won the first four games on their trip, including a 79-70 victory over the Laval Rouge et Or last night and an 83-77 win over the McGill Redmen on Aug. 20.
Last season Sacred Heart, located in Fairfield, Conn., had a 7-11 win-loss record, finishing ninth out of 12 teams in the NEC.
Next Wednesday, Aug. 28, the Stingers will welcome the Siena College Saints, also a Division 1 team. The Saints had a 4-14 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season. They finished ninth in the 10-team standings.
The Loudonville, N.Y.–based school is on a five-game tour of Montreal.
Concordia will go into the games with a thin lineup since training camp and tryouts don’t begin until Sept. 3.
