There are two great reasons to check out the annual Concordia-Nike Men’s Basketball Tournament at Concordia gym this Friday and Saturday.
First, there will be exciting university basketball action and the opportunity to get a good look at the 2013 edition of the Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team.
It will be a very different team, under the direction of head coach John Dore this year. Only six players are back from last season.
“We’re fairly young, but what we lack in experience, we make up for with enthusiasm,” Dore said. “I think we’re going to have to play a variety of styles, mix things up to keep people off balance.
“We’re not as athletic as last year, but we will be a better team defensively which is something we’ve been focusing on.”
The Stingers will play the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Friday at 6 p.m. The Laurentian Voyageurs and the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks will tipoff at 8 p.m.
Championship Saturday gets under way at 2 p.m. The late game is slated to start at 4 p.m. Friday’s results will dictate the schedule on Saturday.
Also, basketball fans in attendance will have a chance to win one of five pairs of basketball tickets for the NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 20 at the Bell Centre.
There will be random draws for tickets on both days of the tournament.
