Top talent joins championship rugby team

Clive Gibson, head coach of the 2014 RSEQ champion men’s rugby program, is pleased to announce the addition of two highly accomplished recruits to the Concordia Stingers program.

Centre Charles Debove, originally from Nice, France but now a resident of St. Sauveur, Que., is a national caliber player that is expected to bring great intensity and work ethic to the Stingers.

He spent two years with Canada’s U20 team and participated in two World Junior Championships. In 2013, Canada lost 45-23 to Italy in the gold medal game. Last year, Debove and his teammates finished seventh at the championship.

“I am expecting Charles to bring a level of skill and intensity that will provide an incentive for other quality players to up their game,” said Gibson.

Debove started training with the Stingers in January and is working on a degree in Psychology.

Flanker Malcolm Baird is a Montreal native who came through the Beaconsfield rugby system and recently played for the Lower Canada Voyageurs, the regional team competing in the U19 Canadian Rugby Championship. He was also a member of the Quebec U18 team.

“Malcolm will be bringing an aggressive offensive and defensive skill set to the table,” Gibson said.  “I expect a faster, more aggressive game in large part because of his style of play.”

Baird has also started working out with the Stingers. He is studying in the Leisure Sciences program.
