Alex Tessier, the all-Canadian centre from the Concordia Stingers women’s rugby, is representing Canada at the Las Vegas Sevens Invitational Tournament this weekend.

The tournament, which is the largest of its kind in North America, is a three-day event featuring many different divisions and age groups. Canada has sent two teams to compete in the Women’s Elite division.

Tessier, a native of St. Clotilde de Horton, Que., is on the Canada East team or Maple Leafs 2.

The Math and Stats major was named the outstanding player in the Quebec conference this season, was third in scoring in the RSEQ with five tries, 18 converts and three penalty goals for 70 points.

Tessier has been getting more and more opportunities to play international rugby. She won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 International University Sports Federation Women's Rugby Sevens Championship in Sao Jose de Campos, Brazil in August.

She also represented Canada in international U20 events over the summer.
