Head coach Mickey Donovan is thrilled to announce Trenton Miller, an exceptional quarterback originally from Buffalo, N.Y., has committed to the Stingers football program and will begin work on his MBA this summer.
“Trenton brings a lot to the table,” said Donovan. “His arm strength is the best I’ve seen in a long time. He’s very dynamic. He’s very intelligent. Watching film he’s been picking up things right away, everything from the terminology to the schemes and how to make reads. He already has a good understanding of our game.”
The six-foot-two, 220-pound athlete has a long and distinguished football résumé beginning at Williamsville East high school in East Amherst, N.Y.
In 2011 he relocated to Florida for his senior year where he was a star at Palmetto high school, a 5A program. That year the Palmetto Tigers were the 11th best program in Florida and ranked 109th in the U.S. (According to the Bleacher Report, approximately 16,000 high schools field football teams).
Miller helped the Tigers post a 12-2 win-loss record and led them to a state semifinal appearance. He threw for 2500 yards and 32 touchdowns at Palmetto. He earned third team 5A all-state honors.
In 2012 Miller was redshirted at University of South Florida. The following year he transferred to Mars Hill University in North Carolina where he suited up for the Lions, an NCAA Division II school in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
In 2013 Miller played 10 games, passing for 2757 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named the SAC Offensive Freshman of the Year. This past season he threw for 1603 yards and nine touchdowns in nine games. He will leave Mars Hill with eight career quarterback records.
Miller’s academics are just as impressive as his athletic prowess. This spring he will complete a B.Sc. in Business Administration with a focus in Finance and Economics. His current GPA is 3.7 out of 4.
“My dad went to Harvard and he was also my high school principal in Buffalo,” Miller explained. “He pushed me academically. I understand how strong academics creates opportunities.”
Assistant coach Andrew Sutherland was instrumental in recruiting Miller and selling him on the exceptional opportunities at Concordia, both on and off the field. Miller was so impressed he committed to the Stingers and considers Sutherland to be a mentor.
“First off, the coaches and people at Concordia are one of a kind,” Miller said of the factors that influenced his decision. “I’ve seen a lot of football programs and visited a lot of schools, and Concordia is definitely a special place.
“Personally, I want to win a championship before my playing days are over. Concordia is definitely a program on the rise. The coaches’ goals are inline with mine and winning a championship.
“Add in the outstanding reputation of the John Molson School of Business and Concordia is a perfect fit for me.”
Miller will have three years of CIS eligibility when he arrives at Concordia.
