Head coach Tenicha Gittens is pleased to announce all-star shooting guard Marie-Ève Martin will return to university basketball as a member of the Concordia Stingers.
Martin, a native of Granby, Que., played three seasons with the McGill Martlets, beginning in 2009-10 when she was named to the Quebec conference all-rookie team. The following two seasons she was named to the RSEQ all-star team.
“I am very excited to have Marty as a player once again,” said Gittens who coached Martin early in her university career. “She brings a much needed championship mentality and work ethic to our Stinger program. Her maturity and leadership will be important in helping guide some of our younger players. Marty is a fierce competitor. She knows how to work and she knows what it takes to win. Most importantly she knows HOW to win.
“Marty is the type of player that does a little bit of everything. Her ability to consistently stroke it from beyond the arc will definitely open up the floor for us.”
The five-foot-seven guard also had a stellar Cégep career at Vanier College. She was a two-time league all-star and was named the RSEQ MVP for the 2008-09 season.
