Charles Debove recognized for community service by RSEQ

Four members of the Concordia men’s rugby team were recognized by the RSEQ when it announced its all-stars and major award winners this week.

Charles Debove, an accomplished centre who joined the Stingers last January, was honoured with the RSEQ Leadership and Community Involvement Award. While Andreas Krawczyk, Caleb Jordan and Andrew Oddy were named to the all-star team.

Debove, a former Canada U20 player, has made a commitment to give back to the community by coaching youth rugby. Last January he began helping at different community youth camps offered by the Concordia recreation department. He also helped coach a girls’ program at Pierrefonds Comprehensive high school. In the summer, he helped at a few sessions with his club’s junior program (Ste. Anne’s Saints).

His biggest volunteer commitment was joining the coaching staff for the Rugby Québec U16 men’s team. In addition he was a consultant for backs with the Quebec U18 men’s team.

Krawczyk, the Stingers’ team captain, is a third-year player who started in all seven league games. A true team player, he played flanker, hooker and 8-man. He scored one try and was named game MVP on two occasions.

Jordan is another multi-talented player who played multiple positions throughout the season – centre, fullback and wing. The Stingers relied on his vast experience to provide key leadership and direction to the backs.

Oddy, a second-year player, was a starter in the second row in all seven league games. He provided shape and structure to the line-out and also excelled in open field play as one of the top tacklers on the team.
