Offensive guard from California to join Stingers

Offensive co-ordinator Matt Connell is pleased to announce guard Brandon Pacheco of Rilato, Calif., has committed to the Concordia Stingers football team.

“Our offensive line just got a lot better real fast,” said Connell. “We’re going to be stronger and more athletic on the line next season. Brandon is going to bring an aggressive attitude with him. He plays with a real mean streak. Look for him to contribute right away.”

Pacheco checks in at six foot three and 285 pounds. His fastest 40-time is 4.99. He benches more than 400 pounds.

“I’m a great pass blocker,” said Pacheco of his strengths. “I’m very aggressive on the line and I like to take people down.”

He also earns respect for his quick feet and good hands.

A graduate of Rilato High School, he moved on to San Bernardino Valley College where he was a member of the Wolverines football team in 2014 and 2015. The Wolverines play in the Southern California Football Association’s American Mountain League. Last season the team posted a 9-2 win-loss record.

Pacheco has been studying Canadian football rules and is looking forward to playing the game in Montreal under the tutelage of Mickey and Pat Donovan and, of course, Matt Connell. He will have three years of CIS eligibility.

“I just want to thank the Concordia coaches for giving me this opportunity and my family for their support,” Pacheco said. “I chose Concordia because the coaches seem great. I feel that it’s an actual family and that they real care about their players.”

Pacheco will join his Stingers family in late May or early June when he settles in Montreal.

Connell and Pat Donovan will spend the next few days in California establishing a recruiting network and meeting prospective players.
