Top Cégep hockey recruit Audrey Belzile to join Stingers

The Concordia women’s hockey coaching staff is pleased to announce Audrey Belzile, an assistant captain with the Cégep de Saint-Laurent Patriotes, will join the Stingers family for the 2016-17 season.

“She is one of the top recruits coming out of the Cégep league this year,” said Concordia coach Julie Chu. “She is a great two-way player. She plays with tons of tenacity on the ice and she has the ability to set the tone for her team.

“She is the type of person we want on our team. Her on-ice contribution is important, but she’s also a tremendous person who will contribute to the team culture in a positive way.”

The 19-year-old forward is leading the first-place Patriotes in scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 20 games. She is third in the RSEQ scoring ranks.

The Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. native has a lengthy and impressive hockey résumé. She’s participated in the Dodge Cup provincial championships six times in the youth ranks. In 2013 she won the Esso Cup national championship with her midget AAA club, l’Equipe Nord. They defeated the Ontario representative from North Bay 5-2.

In 2014 Belzile attended Team Canada’s U18 evaluation camp.

She won a gold medal with Team Quebec at the Canada Games last February. She scored the winning goal in overtime to help her team defeat Team Ontario 2-1.

In 2015 she also helped Saint-Laurent win the RSEQ championship and was named to the Cégep conference’s all-rookie team.

Her accomplishments were also recognized by the Montreal Canadiens who awarded Belzile a bursary for academic and hockey excellence in 2015.
