Stingers earn 3 spots on women's basketball all-star teams

Richelle Grégoire, a fourth-year forward from Ste. Thérèse, Que., earned a spot on the RSEQ women’s basketball first all-star team while teammates Marilyse Roy-Viau and Marie-Ève Martin were named to the second team.

Grégoire is in the top three in several conference statistical categories, including scoring where she ranks second with 15.1 points a game. She is first in free-throw percentage at .846 and third in steals with an average of 2.8. She played in all 16 conference games and logged an average of 34.6 minutes.

Roy-Viau, also a fourth-year forward, makes her fourth consecutive appearance on the RSEQ honour roll. This is the third time she has been named to the second team. She was on the first team in 2015.

The Mirabel, Que. native played 16 games averaging 13.9 points and 5.9 rebounds. She ranked third in conference scoring.

Martin, a fourth-year shooting guard from Granby, Que., earns her third all-star honour. As a member of the McGill Martlets she was on the first team in 2011 and the second team in 2012.

She played 14 games for the Stingers this year and averaged 11.4 points. With 32, she made the most three-pointers in the RSEQ. She ranked second in the conference with a free-throw percentage of .816.

The Stingers finished the regular season in fourth place with a 7-9 win-loss record. They meet the McGill Martlets in semifinal action at the RSEQ Final 4 tournament tomorrow at 6 p.m. All games will take place at McGill’s Love Competition Hall, 475 Pine Ave. W., Montreal.
