Wrestler Morais to compete at World University Championship

Stinger Linda Morais will lead a contingent of Concordia students into competition at the 12th World University Wrestling Championships in Corum, Turkey this fall.

Morais, the three-time CIS all-Canadian, won the women’s 58 kilos qualification bracket in Guelph, Ont. on June 24. She defeated Brock’s Emily Schaefer 10-0 in the final match of the event.

Joining Morais in Turkey will be former Stingers Veronica Keefe (69 kg), Scott Schiller (61 kg) and Jordan Steen (86 kg).

The World University Wrestling Championships will take place Oct. 25-30. They are part of the sporting events of the International University Sports Federation. Alternating with the Summer and Winter Universiades, they are organized every even-numbered year.

Current university students and those who have obtained their degree in the year preceding the event may be eligible. Students must be between the ages of 17 and 28 years old.
