Jenna Thompson of the women’s rugby team and Matthieu Desautels of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 23.
Thompson, a No. 8 in her third year of eligibility, was the outstanding player in Concordia’s 31-24 win over the Laval Rouge et Or in the RSEQ semifinal game last Saturday. Thompson scored a critical try in the second half to help the Stingers earn the come-from-behind victory. The win sends Concordia to the RSEQ championship versus the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night.
A 21-year-old native of Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que., Thompson is a Civil Engineering student at Concordia.
Desautels, a first-year defenceman, picked up two assists in Concordia’s 6-3 victory over the No. 7-ranked UQTR Patriotes last Friday. He was exceptional in both ends of the rink and instrumental on the power play and penalty kill. The win gives Concordia a 4-1 win-loss record and vaulted the Stingers to the No. 9 spot in the national rankings.
The 21-year-old athlete from Alexandria, Ont. is an Independent Studies student at Concordia.
