Team Québec forward commits to Stingers women's hockey

Lidia Fillion, an accomplished forward who was a member of Team Québec at the 2015 Canada Games, has committed to the Concordia Stingers women’s hockey team.

The native of Sherbrooke, Que. was a key figure in Quebec’s gold medal run at the U18 tournament held at the Canada Games in Prince George, B.C. Fillion and her teammates defeated Team Ontario 2-1 in overtime to win the championship. In six tournament games, she collected two goals and two assists.

Fillion is now in her third season with the Cégep de Saint-Laurent Patriotes. The 19 year old is currently the team’s leading scorer with five goals and six assists in 10 games.

Earlier this month Fillion was on the RSEQ Cégep all-star team that played the current Québec U18 Team.

“She’s a really smart player,” said Concordia Stingers head coach Julie Chu. “She’s a great two-way player who has the ability to read defensive situations as well as create offensive opportunities. We’re going to be able to use her in a lot of different situations.”

Fillion is the team captain with Saint-Laurent, and Chu is pleased to add a great leader to her lineup.

“Lidia has a great presence on and off the ice,” Chu said. “She’s a leader in a lot of capacities. There’s a great poise about her.”

Over her career, Fillion’s hockey prowess has also been recognized by the Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence du Québec. She received bursaries from their program sponsored by the Montreal Canadiens.
