Gregoire, De Luca – Athletes of the Week

Richelle Gregoire of the women’s basketball team and Anthony De Luca of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 13.

Gregoire, a fifth-year guard, was exceptional in Concordia’s first two RSEQ conference games of the year. In the season opener, a 59-55 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters last Thursday, she led all scorers in the game with 19 points. In a difficult 71-60 loss to the Laval Rouge et Or on Sunday, she was the top scorer with 20 points and top rebounder with nine. She is currently the leading scorer in the RSEQ averaging 19.5 points a game.

A 25-year-old native of Ste. Thérèse, Que., Gregoire is pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Adult Education.

De Luca, a first-year forward, is the outstanding male athlete for the second week in a row. He picked up three goals and an assist in two games last week. He collected a goal and an assist in Concordia’s 6-3 loss to the Brock Badgers last Friday. The following day he scored two goals, including the game winner, in a 3-2 win over the York Lions. After 11 games this season, De Luca is the second leading goal scorer in the CIS with 11 goals.

The 21-year-old athlete from Rosemere, Que. is in Independent Studies at Concordia.
