Men's Hockey rides 5-game win streak into Top 10

With three victories last week, the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team stretched its win streak to five games and established itself as a serious contender on the U Sports men’s hockey circuit.

After falling out of the national Top 10 rankings late in November, the Stingers returned this week moving into the No. 9 spot.

The Stingers wrapped up the first semester with wins over the RMC Paladins and the UOIT Ridgebacks. They picked up where they left off when they hit the ice again in January, notching three more victories. Concordia defeated RMC 7-1 in Kingston, Ont. on Jan. 4. The team returned home and took down the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-3 last Friday and the No. 3-ranked Ryerson Rams 6-1 on Saturday.

Concordia moves into third place in the 10-team OUA East Conference with 28 points and a record of 14 wins and five losses. The McGill Redmen sit in the top spot with 30 points while the Queen’s Gaels are second with 29 points.

There were some impressive individual performances over the last week. Captain Olivier Hinse picked up five goals and three assists for eight points in the three games. Rookie forward Anthony De Luca collected three goals and three assists for six points. Charles-Eric Legare notched two short-handed goals.

This week the team is on the road for games against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday and the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday.

The Stingers return home to face McGill in the Corey Cup game on Friday, Jan. 20.
