Corey Cup: university hockey bragging rights on the line

The fierce rivalry between the Concordia Stingers and the McGill Redmen will be ignited at the 30th annual Corey Cup, symbolic of men’s university hockey supremacy in Montreal, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ed Meagher Arena on the Loyola campus.

You couldn’t ask for a better matchup with both teams just a point apart at the top of the OUA East standings. McGill has a 15-4-2 record for 32 points, while Concordia boasts a 15-5-1 record with 31 points. Both teams have won seven of their last 10 games. In the only meeting (Oct. 14). so far this season, the Redmen eked out a 6-5 win.

“It’s going to be a battle,” said Stingers head coach Marc-André Élement. “But we’re approaching it like a normal game. I don’t want the players getting too excited and losing focus. We have to do our thing. We have to take advantage of our speed and play in-your-face hockey the whole game, but stay disciplined.”

Concordia is the defending champion having beat McGill 4-2 last February.

The Corey Cup was dedicated in 1988 by Ronald Corey, then president and governor of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.

The Ed Meagher Arena is located at 7200 Sherbrooke St. W., on Concordia University’s Loyola campus.

Tickets

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.

Free T-Shirts
