Jazlin Barker of the women’s basketball team and Philippe Sanche of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 5.
Barker, a first-year guard, was a bright spot in two difficult losses at the hands of the No. 1-ranked Laval Rouge et Or last week. She scored 19 points and chipped in with three assists and five steals in a closely contested battle that saw the Stingers lose 83-77 in overtime last Thursday. In the rematch two days later, Barker scored 25 points and had five assists in a 95-69 loss.
A 21-year-old native of Toronto, Barker is working on a certificate in Arts and Science.Sanche, a first-year forward, picked up four goals and two assists in a pair of wins last week. He collected two goals and an assist in a 7-4 victory over the Western Mustangs last Friday. The following night he picked up another two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win over the Guelph Gryphons. In 24 games so far this season, Sanche has 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points.
The 21-year-old athlete from Mercier, Que. is in Independent Studies at Concordia.
