Stingers women's basketball clinches spot at Final 4

The Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team defeated the McGill Martlets 58-53 on Thursday night to clinch a spot in the RSEQ university Final 4 tournament in March.

With two regular season games left, the Stingers have 12 points and a win-loss record of 6-8. The team is assured of fourth place, but could finish as high as second depending on the outcome of the last few games.

The Concordia victory eliminates the Bishop’s Gaiters who have a 2-11 record with three games remaining.

Fifth-year forward Marilyse Roy-Viau was the leading scorer on the Stingers with 14 points. Guards Jazlin Barker and Aurelie d'Anjou Drouin chipped in with 12 points each.

The Stingers wrap up the regular season with games at Bishop’s on Wednesday, Feb. 22 and home to the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.

The RSEQ women’s semifinals take place on Thursday, March 2 at the Pierre Charbonneau Centre, 3000 Viau St., Montreal. For ticket information visit finale4rseq.ca.
