7 Stingers on RSEQ women's hockey honour roll

Seven members of the Concordia Stingers women’s hockey team are amongst the elite players announced as all-stars or major award winners by the RSEQ this afternoon.

Caroll-Ann Gagné, a fourth-year defender from Fermont, Que., was named to the conference’s first all-star team. It is her second all-star honour. She was a member of the second team in 2015-16. She collected a goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 20 games.

Fourth-year defender Marie-Joëlle Allard of Victoriaville, Que., picks up her third award from the RSEQ. She is a second team all-star. Previously, Allard was named to the league’s all-rookie team (2013-14) and she was a first team all-star in 2014-15. She picked up one goal and six assists for seven points in 20 games this season.

Chicoutimi, Que. native Claudia Dubois picks up her first league honour. The second-year forward was named to the second all-star team. She finished ninth in RSEQ scoring with 11 goals and six assists for 17 points in 20 games.

Three members of the Stingers were selected for the RSEQ’s all-rookie team. Leading the way is forward Audrey Belzile. The St. Hyacinthe, Que. native was the top scorer on the Stingers with nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 20 games. She was the sixth-leading scorer in the RSEQ.

Defender Alexandra Nikolidakis turned a lot of heads in her first season. A Laval Que. native, she had 10 assists in 15 games.

Brigitte Laganière, a defender from Anjou, Que., was also recognized for her exceptional play as a rookie. She had a goal and five assists for six points in 20 games.

The final award goes to Julie Chu who was named the RSEQ’s Coach of the Year. Chu and her staff guided the Stingers to a third place finish with a 10-9-1 record and 21 points. It was a vast improvement from their fourth place finish with a 6-12-2 record and 14 points the previous season.
