Football Stingers well-represented at East-West Bowl

Six members of the Concordia Stingers football team are participating in the 2017 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl and the events leading up to it this week.

The 15th annual prospects game, which features Canadian university players heading into their CFL draft year, is set for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Université Laval’s stadium in Quebec City.

Offensive lineman Marc-Antoine Sévigny, fullback Tanner Green, linebacker Mickael Côté and defensive back Alex Renaud are the Stingers’ representatives on the field.

Head coach Mickey Donovan is assisting with the offensive line, while assistant coach Jermaine Lewis-Parris is working with the defensive backs.

“I think this is a great experience for our players,” said Donovan. “It’s an opportunity to play and measure yourself against the best players in Canada. And our guys are being evaluated everyday by CFL scouts and other coaches who vote for league all-stars and all-Canadians.”

The 2017 edition, which kicked off on Monday, includes four days of practices, a combine for participating players and the traditional East-West Bowl banquet.

The East team for the game is comprised of players from the Atlantic and Quebec conferences as well as Carleton, Ottawa and Queen’s, while the West contingent is made up of student-athletes from Canada West and the remaining Ontario universities.

The West leads the series, winning eight of the 14 games held to date, but the East has claimed four of the last six meetings. The West is the defending champion with a 29-14 victory last May.

The game will be streamed live on Laval’s YouTube channel - https://youtu.be/0ZGOR7XSRtg.
