Khadeem Pierre named RSEQ Defensive Rookie of the Year

Cornerback Khadeem Pierre is the first Concordia Stingers defensive player to earn recognition as an outstanding first-year player since lineman Giovanni Petrella was the O-QIFC Rookie of the Year in 1992.

Pierre was a unanimous selection to the 2017 RSEQ all-star team. He played seven games picking up 17 solo tackles and four assists for 19 total tackles. He hauled in three interceptions which ranks him second in the RSEQ. He also batted one ball and forced a fumble.

The versatile Ottawa native can play any position in the defensive backfield. He is a dedicated student of the game and knows all the positions inside and out. He suited up at safety for one game this season.

Defensive co-ordinator Pat Donovan says, “Khadeem has speed and he’s a lockdown corner. He tall and he can cover anyone one-on-one. He allows us to do more things in coverages and definitely makes us a better team.”

Donovan also praised Pierre’s leadership and physical play.

“You could say teams didn’t throw to his side of the field,” says the fourth-year defensive co-ordinator.
