Lidia Fillion makes national all-rookie hockey team

Concordia Stinger forward Lidia Fillion was named to the U SPORTS women’s hockey all-rookie team announced this evening at the national championship awards banquet in London, Ont.

Fillion played in 19 regular season games, picking up 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. She ranked fifth overall in conference scoring and was the top rookie scorer in Quebec. She was selected the RSEQ rookie of the year.

“Lidia is really great around the net,” said Concordia head coach Julie Chu. “She’s our net-front presence on the power play. She’s willing to take the hits and play tough in that gritty area. She scored a lot of goals this year on tips and rebounds.

“She brings a lot to our team. She has a calm personality and is very even keeled.”

The Sherbrooke, Que. native comes to the Stingers from the St. Laurent Patriotes of the RSEQ Cégep conference. In 2016-17, she was a second team all-star at the college level. She was also the team captain that season.

Fillion and the Stingers play their first game, a quarter-final showdown versus the St. Francis Xavier X-Women, on Friday at 7 p.m.
