Stingers bring home leadership award, all-star honour

Two members of the Concordia Stingers were recognized by the RSEQ when it announced its women’s indoor soccer league major award winners and all-stars on Thursday.

Graduating captain Laura Lamontagne was the recipient of the leadership and community service award. She is an Athletic Therapy student who earned a 4.0 GPA during the fall.

The Les Cèdres, Que. native was a driving force behind her team’s efforts to collect toys and gifts for the patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. It’s an annual event the Stingers organize in memory of former player Erica Cadieux.

She also volunteered as an athletic therapy intern at the Point Wish Softball Tournament, a fundraiser connected to the Make a Wish Foundation, and at various events through the Rotary Club proving support and outreach to senior citizens.

First-year defender Imane Chebel was named to the second all-star team. The Montrealer was selected the game MVP on five occasions this season, including the RSEQ quarter-finals last week.

The Stingers meet the Laval Rouge et Or in semifinal action on Saturday afternoon at the RSEQ playoffs being held in Trois-Rivières, Que.
