Dawson captain Léonie Philbert commits to Concordia

Head coach Julie Chu is pleased to announce forward Léonie Philbert, the captain of the Dawson Blues women’s hockey team, has committed to the Concordia Stingers.

“Léonie is an incredible two-way player,” said Chu. “She has the versatility to play at centre or at wing and makes anyone she plays with better. She is a great hockey player and she is a tremendous person that will truly embody our team-first culture.”

The St. Bruno de Montarville, Que. native has a long, impressive hockey resumé. She played her youth hockey with l’Express du Richelieu and was a member of the AA team that won a silver medal at the 2016 Esso Cup, the national female midget championship. Philbert was named the most sportsmanlike player at the national tournament.

She was selected to play for Team Quebec in 2015 and 2016. She won a silver medal at the U18 national championship with the 2016 team.

At the college level, she was a member of the 2016-17 Dawson team that won a silver medal in the RSEQ playoffs. Last season she was the Blues’ team MVP.

All the while, Philbert has excelled in the classroom. She received an Academic Merit Award from the RSEQ and was recognized by Dawson, where she studies Pure and Applied Science, for having grades above 90 per cent.

In 2019 she will bring her many talents to the Stingers.

“I chose Concordia because I really like the philosophy,” said Philbert. “The coaching staff is composed of awesome people with constructive values. I am convinced Concordia will be a great environment for me as an athlete and as an individual.”
