Big honours for Stingers men's rugby

The Concordia Stingers men’s rugby season capped off an exceptional season with five spots on the RSEQ all-star team and a major conference award.

Many of the Stingers’ leaders were recognized when the conference revealed its top 15 players. Second-year scrum half Kevin Elliott, the field general for Concordia; and captain Dario Pellizzari, a fourth-year flanker whose leadership is strong on and off the field, made the honour roll.

First-year centre Joey Fugliniti, the leader of the backs, was a conference all-star. He led the Stingers in scoring with one try, 10 conversions and five penalty goals for 40 points.

Rounding out the all-stars were: Marc Roche, a quiet lead-by-example No. 8 who is in his third season with Concordia, and Phil Walkden, a veteran second row player who battles in the trenches for the Stingers.

William Felderbaum, a second-year hooker from Hampstead, Que., won the RSEQ community service and leadership award. His primary contribution to the community is through the Combined Jewish Appeal (CJA) in Montreal.  He is a member of the “Keifada Program” at the CJA, working to create community leaders in the next generation by encouraging them to be part of community volunteer programs at home and abroad.

Felderbaum works at “Le Café”, a soup kitchen run through the CJA. He helps with the March to Jerusalem and he volunteers at a centre for the physically and mentally challenged in Montreal.

He has also spent time in Israel contributing to community projects and has volunteered at a Montreal organization, fundraising to help the fight against cancer.

The Stingers finished the regular season in first place with a 6-2 win-loss record. They reached the RSEQ championship but narrowly lost 24-18 to the McGill Redmen.
