Women's hockey rivals to clash in RSEQ semifinals

The Concordia Stingers women’s hockey team will host its first home playoff game in three years when the McGill Martlets travel over to the Ed Meagher Arena to play Game 2 of the RSEQ semifinals on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Stingers put up a monumental fight in Game 1 of the best-of-three series at McGill’s McConnell Arena on Friday night before succumbing 3-2.

Concordia head coach Les Lawton is still confident about his team’s chances to take the series.

“We’ve played McGill tough all year,” said Lawton. “If we can stay out of the penalty box and get good goaltending, we could have success. But we really have to play 60 minutes.”

The Stingers went through a rebuilding period but took a big step forward this season. With a 5-15 win-loss record the team finished in fourth spot and secured a playoff spot for the first time in three seasons.

The first-place Martlets have an 18-2 record and are currently ranked No. 2 in the CIS.

Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at McGill.
