Brisebois, Chmielewski receive RSEQ basketball awards

Two members of the Concordia Stingers were among the honorees when the RSEQ announced its all-stars and major award winners for men’s basketball today.

Fourth-year centre Zach Brisebois was named the league’s Outstanding Defensive Player. In 16 games he hauled in 111 rebounds – 43 offensive and 68 defensive – for an average of 6.9 a game. He ranked third in the conference.

Brisebois, a native of Montreal, played an average of 31.6 minutes a game, picking up 6.6 points. He had eight blocks and 13 steals on the season.

It’s the first time since Jamal Gallier in 2008-09 that a member of the Stingers was recognized for defensive prowess.

Adam Chmielewski, a third-year guard from Montreal, was named to the RSEQ’s first all-star team. He averaged 35.2 minutes a game, the most of any player in the conference.

He scored 11.6 points and collected 4.4 rebounds a game. He had an impressive 76 assists for an average of 4.8 a game, ranking him second in the league.

The men’s basketball team travels to Quebec City to play in the RSEQ’s Final 4, starting with the Bishop’s Gaiters in semifinal action on Saturday at 1 p.m.
