Sanchez adds talent to women's soccer roster

Jorge Sanchez, head coach of the Stingers women’s soccer team, is pleased to announce three talented players have committed to Concordia.

Midfielder Rachel Dragan, defender Courtney Lundell Streeter and striker Keisha Lewis will be in training camp this August.

Dragan from Orleans, Ont. will join the team for her final year of CIS eligibility after spending four years with the St. Francis Xavier X-Women (2009-12). While down East, she participated in the CIS championships in 2009 and was an Atlantic universities second team all-star in 2012.

Dragan sat out the 2013 season with an injury and will now join her sister Alex on the Stingers’ roster.

“Rachel will add depth and experience to our midfield while providing valuable leadership,” said Sanchez. “Her presence will allow us to improve our possession game.”

Lundell Streeter, a native of Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que., is a versatile athlete who can play defender or midfielder. She was a key player at John Abbott College where she was an RSEQ first team all-star in 2012.

A youth player with the Lac St Louis Lakers and Monteuil Soccer club, she currently plays in the Ligue de soccer élite du Québec with Delta FC. She was also a member of the Quebec provincial program.

"Courtney is a left-side, left-footed player that can play defence and midfield,” Sanchez said. “She will bring pace and the willingness to attack from wide positions. Her ability to cross with accuracy with her left foot will add another dimension to our play."

Lewis a winger/striker comes to Concordia having played with her hometown Ottawa Fury youth teams before transferring to the very successful Capital United FC where she is currently playing in the U21 league.

"Keisha will add a degree of pace and athleticism to our offence and has a great nose for the net,” said the coach. “She is a proven finisher."

Sanchez is always looking to improve the product on the field and is still searching out top talent for the team.

The Stingers women’s team opens training camp on Aug. 14 with soccer registration and fitness testing. Concordia opens the regular season at home to the Bishop’s Gaiters on Friday, Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
