Olivier Hinse named captain of men's hockey team

Head coach Kevin Figsby is pleased to announce Olivier Hinse, a third-year centre from Sherbrooke, Que., has been named captain of the 2014-15 Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team.

“Olivier just brings so much to the program,” said Figsby. “He’s worked the hardest on and off the ice and he is extremely devoted to the Stingers. If the players on our team follow his example, use him as their role model – we will have an exceptional run the next few years.”

In 2013-14, Hinse was an assistant captain with the Stingers. He was the youngest player in the history of Concordia to earn an A on his sweater. With the graduation of last year’s captain George Lovatsis, Hinse takes over the leadership of the team.

“I’m happy to be the captain,” Hinse said of his new responsibilities. ”We have a good crew together, a good bunch of guys and everyone is on the same page.

“I don’t feel there’s any extra pressure. I have to work hard and make sure everyone is ready everyday, every practice, every game.”

Last season Hinse collected 35 points in 28 games and his 18 goals tied him for third on the list of OUA scoring leaders. Hinse was twice named the Concordia athlete of the week for his efforts and was also named to the OUA East second all-star team.

In the classroom he maintains a strong grade point average while working toward his degree in Child Studies. Hinse is also heavily involved in community work, representing the Stingers at several events.

Helping Hinse with the leadership of the Stingers will be assistant captains Youssef Kabbaj, Kyle Armstrong and Jessyco Bernard.
