Stingers win 6th straight Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup

The No. 7-ranked Concordia Stingers upset the No. 5-ranked McGill Martlets 34-20 to win the 10th annual Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup before 500 fans at Concordia Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was the sixth straight victory in the Cup game between the crosstown rivals. The Cup honors Kelly-Anne Drummond, a former Stinger player who died tragically in 2004. The game is symbolic of women’s university rugby supremacy in Montreal.

More than $1500 was collected in the stands for WomenAware an organization supported by Kelly-Anne’s parents Doreen Haddad and John Drummond.

Alex Tessier took care of the majority of the scoring for the Stingers with two tries, three converts and two penalty goals. Veteran Hughanna Gaw scored two tries and Erika Ikonomopoulos had one.

Emily Challice and Emily Barber scored the McGill tries. Caroline Suchorski connected on two converts and two penalty goals.

The Stingers are now undefeated in two RSEQ conference games. The Martlets fall to 1-1.
