Children's hospital to benefit from memorial soccer game

The annual Erica Cadieux memorial game in will take place this Friday night when the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer team hosts the UQTR Patriotes.

It is a night set aside to honour Erica Cadieux, a former Stingers soccer player who died tragically in 2006. She is survived by her husband Carlo Spadafora, daughters Bianca and Olivia, parents Roch and Yolanda Cadieux and sisters Sophie and Nini. Every year her family joins the Stingers for the emotional but spirited event.

Together they remember Erica, but they also use the occasion to help the young patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Small gifts will be collected for the Child Life Services Department.

Donations of markers, coloring books, stickers, bubbles, Play-Doh, DVD movies, infants toys, deck of cards and earphones for music would be appreciated. These will be collected at the entrance, but can also be dropped off at the reception desk of the Concordia athletic complex, 7200 Sherbrooke St. W., through Oct. 10.

The members of women’s soccer team bring gifts as well and at the beginning of the game, Erica’s family comes to centre field to greet the soccer teams and collect the gifts. Afterwards, they present a plaque to the captains of the winning team.

In recent years, members of several other Stinger teams have rallied around the event and brought toys to support the Children’s hospital.

The men’s soccer team will start the evening with a game, also versus UQTR, at 6:30 p.m. The women’s game and presentations begin at 8:30 p.m.
