Myre, Dragan named to RSEQ all-star team

Two veteran players from the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer program were named to the Quebec conference second all-star team announced by the RSEQ earlier this week.

Fourth-year midfielder Kayla Myre and fourth-year centreback Alex Dragan were honored for their exceptional performances this season.

In 14 games Myre, who was the Stingers’ outstanding player in 2013, scored one goal and was voted game MVP five times. This is the second consecutive all-star award for the native of St. Hubert, Que.

“I’m glad she was recognized for her play this season,” said Stinger head coach Jorge Sanchez. "Kayla was basically a walk on in 2011 but quickly earned a starting role. After two years playing as a defender, she switched to a more attacking role in 2013 and quickly made the position her own.”

Dragan played in 13 games this season, picking up one assist and one game MVP honor. This is the first conference award for the Ottawa native.

"In her first three years Alex played the majority of positions, but this season she was asked to switch to centreback and this helped solidify our defence,” Sanchez explained. “She has been a leader for the majority of her career and this is a much deserved recognition."

The Stingers finished in fifth place in the eight-team Quebec conference with a win-loss-tie record of 3-6-5.
