FAEQ honors Mukiya Post with leadership award

Concordia Stinger basketball star Mukiya Post received one of the highest honors accorded by the Fondation de l’athlete d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) at a gala dinner in Laval, Que. on Tuesday night.

The fifth-year guard received a $2000 bursary as the winner of the Gildan student-athlete leadership award. It is presented annually to the Quebec university student-athlete who has distinguished himself through community service and has displayed a leadership role within his team.

Post graciously accepted his award in front of more than 500 members of the elite university and amateur sports communities. He thanked Concordia University, head coach John Dore and his family during his acceptance speech.

The Victoria, B.C. native maintains a GPA over 3.2 while studying History at Concordia. He also puts countless hours into his foundation called “Pass the Ball.” He created the foundation to help get sports equipment to under-privileged youth in the Caribbean. He collects, organizes and arranges delivery of the equipment. To date, he has arranged three shipments of goods to schools and orphanages in Jamaica.

Two other Stingers were also honored at the 29th annual FAEQ gala. Veteran receiver Jamal Henry (St. Constant, Que.) was honored with a Montreal Alouettes sport excellence bursary valued at $1500. Wrestler Veronica Keefe (Winsloe North, P.E.I.) received a $1750 bursary as one of the finalists in the excellence in women’s individual sports category.
