Brazil and France on wrestling itinerary

Members of the Concordia Stingers wrestling program were involved in a couple of elite international competitions at the 2014 Brazil Cup in Rio de Janeiro and the Henri Deglane Challenge in Nice, France late last month.

The South American competition was held Nov. 28-29 and was designed to familiarize potential Olympians with Rio and Brazil.Stinger athlete Veronica Keefe competed in the 75 kg weight class and finished fourth out of five wrestlers. She beat two Brazilian competitors but lost to an athlete from Japan and fellow Canadian Erica Wiebe.

Jordan Steen, who represented Concordia the last two years but is taking a break this semester, won a silver medal. He was in a pool of 12 wrestlers at 86 kilos.

Concordia assistant wrestling coach David Zilberman was part of the team Canada sent to France. As well, Scott Schiller who represented the Stingers for five seasons ending in 2013, competed in France. He finished 10th out of 14 wrestlers in the 57 kilos weight class.
