Yanic Lessard, a highly sought-after slotback from Champlain College, Lennoxville, has committed to the Concordia Stingers football program.
Lessard, a six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Ste. Julie, Que., is one of the best receivers coming out of the CEGEP ranks this year. He runs a 4.69 40-yard dash and has a vertical leap of 32 inches.
Last season with the Cougars Lessard caught 31 passes for 492 yards and two touchdowns. Over his three-year CEGEP career he caught 114 passes for 1114 yards and five TDs.
“We are beyond excited to have Yan join our family here at Concordia,” said Stingers offensive co-ordinator Matt Connell. ‘Yan is a special receiver and to get a top receiver with his abilities is a big deal. He is a great addition to our program. I look for Yan to be an immediate impact player for us.”
With Champlain he went to three Bol d’Or championships, winning in 2013.
Before joining the Cougars, he was an all-star in the Quebec juvenile AAA high school league. In his senior year with Collège Charles-Lemoyne he had 46 catches for 718 yards and six majors.
Many universities were recruiting Lessard hard, but he had very compelling reasons to choose Concordia.“I want to continue to study in English and I want to go into Business,” he said. “I know Concordia’s John Molson School of Business is one of the top ranked schools.
“I think the Stingers are a good fit,” he continued. “The coaches are young, there’s a good energy and I really liked it when I visited.”
