  • Jorge Sanchez

    Head Coach

  • Jorge Sanchez took over as head coach of the Concordia women's soccer program in the summer of 2002 and had an immediate and profound impact.

Under his direction, the Stingers enjoyed their best season in more than a decade. With a 7-4-3 Quebec conference record, the team was above .500 for the first time since 1993. Concordia defeated the McGill Martlets 1-0 in the semifinals before losing 2-0 to the Laval Rouge et Or in the QSSF championship. The semifinal victory over McGill gave the Stingers their first playoff victory since 1991.

The Dorval Que., resident has 30 years of experience as a player, administrator and coach. He is a fully-certified Level 3 (Lisence 3) coach who has worked as an assistant with the highly respected Lac St. Louis Lakers organization, coaching with the under-17 girls team. From 1997 to 2001, Sanchez was an assistant coach with the National High Performance Centre in Montreal, where Quebec players identified by the national team train. Over the years, he has also coached several provincial teams, with the Lakeshore Soccer Club and at John Abbott College.

"My goal is to put the best team on the field and to play quality soccer," says Sanchez, who is known for coaching a very technically sound game. "I don't believe in winning ugly. I believe in quality soccer. I expect to be competitive and ideally to take the program another step forward.

"I like the idea of being involved in something bigger than a club," he adds. "You're not just representing your team, you are representing a whole institution. As a graduate of Concordia, I like that."

Sanchez graduated from Concordia in 1989 with a major in Economics and a minor in Business Studies.
