2023-2024 FOOTBALL COACHES
Alex Surprenant joined the Concordia Stingers football staff and was named offensive co-ordinator in February of 2019.
Head coach Brad Collinson was pleased to add Surprenant to his team in a key role because he is a proven winner as both a coach and a player. He is also a respected recruiter with a vast knowledge of the football community.
Before joining the Stingers, Surprenant was a coach in the Cégep St. Jean Géants organization dating back to 2010. He began as a special teams and defensive backs coach and took over as the head coach and offensive co-ordinator in 2013. Under his supervision, the team enjoyed great success winning back-to-back Bol d’Or championships in 2014 and 2015 and successfully moving up from the RSEQ Division 2 conference to Division 1 play in 2016.
Surprenant’s diverse experience and hard work helped him develop highly effective offences. In three seasons as the head coach and offensive co-ordinator at the Division 2 level, his teams rolled up a 23-4 regular season record. Each year the Géants had the highest scoring offence in the conference.
In 2016 the team made a seamless transition to the Division 1 conference where the competition was tougher, but St. Jean still fielded very competitive, pass-oriented offences. Surprenant and his coaches were named the 2018 Staff of the Year in the RSEQ Division 1 conference.
Surprenant has also worked with Quebec’s provincial teams. He was the offensive co-ordinator and quarterback coach for the U18 team in 2019 and 2020. He worked with the U16 team’s defensive backs and special teams in 2018.
The native of Farnham, Que. played for the Géants from 2002 to 2005 and then played defensive back for the Laval Rouge et Or from 2006 to 2009. Surprenant won two Vanier Cup championships and was a RSEQ all-star in his final university season.
He graduated from Université Laval with a degree in Business Administration in 2009.
