Marie-Claude Roy, a knowledgeable and
confident goaltender, raised the level of women's university hockey and opened the eyes of all who
followed her. Roy was the first Concordia Stinger to take her game to the
international level. She was a member of the Team Canada squad that won a gold
medal at the 1992 World Championship in Finland. During her five years in a
Stinger uniform, she proved to be an unswerving and tenacious competitor. From
1989-94, with Roy leading the way, the Concordia Stingers posted a record of
140-38-13 and won four Quebec league championships. She earned many honors,
including conference and tournament all-stars. Roy was also named Concordia
Female Athlete of the Year in 1992.
