1976 Men's Soccer Team

  Team

Inducted in 2003 as a Team

Institution: Concordia

Concordia history was made on November 14, 1976, when the men's soccer team won the CIAU national championship - a first for the newly formed university. The Sam Davidson Memorial Trophy was presented to coach Harry Hus and his newly crowned champions.

On a cloudy Sunday afternoon in Montreal, the Stingers defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in overtime. The Stingers trailed the eastern representatives 1-0 midway through the second half, but Gordie Wallace tied up the game and sent it into overtime. With the tension rising and a shootout looming, Wallace scored again. The historic goal came on a beautiful give and go from Mike Reymolds with four minutes left in overtime.

To reach the nationals, the Stingers put together a masterful undefeated season in the Quebec conference. For all its achievements the team was honored at Montreal City Hall.
