Karyn Bye is one of the most
accomplished and dominating athletes in the history of women's hockey. A
powerful, gutsy forward, her dedication on and off the ice has helped raise the
women's game to new heights.
Karyn wore Concordia colors for two seasons while working on a graduate diploma
in sports administration. She collected 67 goals and 72 assists in 69 games.
The Stingers posted a 61-6-7 record during her tenure. She was named a second
team Quebec university all-star in 1993-'94 and was named Concordia's Fittest
Female Athlete in her final year. In 1994-'95 she was also captain of the
Stingers women's hockey team.
Her leadership and skills have paced the U.S. national team to six silver
medals at world championships. She was an assistant captain with the American
Olympic team in 1998 and 2002. She won a gold medal at the Winter Games in
Nagano, Japan, where women's hockey made its Olympic debut. She was also a
silver medallist at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002. She was named USA Hockey
Women's Player of the Year in 1995 and 1998.
