A boisterous and energetic throng of American and Canadian hockey enthusiasts bore witness to an exciting three-game exhibition series featuring students and alumni from Concordia University's John Molson School of Business and students from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
The Concordia team’s, which are made up largely of intramural hockey players, won two of the three games at the Ed Meagher Arena last Saturday.
In the first game, on the strength of a three-goal performance by Erin Pingetore, the Concordia women beat their New Hampshire counterparts 6-1. In 2003, the women’s component was added to the event. To date, Concordia is undefeated in four games.
In game two, the Concordia men's B team continued the winning ways with a hard-fought 6-2 victory.
Tuck salvaged some pride by taking the last game of the series, as its men's A team skillfully handled Concordia's A squad by a margin of 5-1.
The Concordia-Tuck series involving the two business schools has been an annual event since the late 1990s. In 2001, the hockey series evolved into a fundraising event, collecting more than $14,000 for charitable organizations like Sun Youth, Easter Seals, the Red Cross (Tsunami relief), Welcome Hall Mission, Blind Bowlers of Canada, Fania and the Montreal Diet Dispensary. This year's edition raised $635 for the Welcome Hall Mission and Hockey for the Homeless survivor kits.
The success of the cross-border challenge comes from the generosity of the players and the large groups of local and American supporters who travel to Montreal to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city as well as the hockey.
This year’s event was a success thanks to the hard work of Ronny Velicogna, Kyla Demers, Matt Amin, Pat Devey and Pierre Zavadell, among others.
