Former Stinger Claudia Asselin joins soccer staff

Head coach Greg Sutton is pleased to announce Claudia Asselin has joined the coaching staff of the Concordia Stingers women's soccer team.

Asselin, who is originally from Magog, Que., joined the Stingers for the 2017 season as a midfielder/defender. She quickly earned respect for her skills and her leadership.

Injuries kept her off the field in the fall of 2019 and when her academic and career goals changed direction, Asselin came to the conclusion that her university playing days were behind her.

But she wasn’t ready to walk away completely. After some thought and discussion with Sutton, she decided to stay involved as a member of the staff.

“I’m excited about having Claudia on our staff,” Sutton said. “She was a positive influence and role model as a student-athlete and she will bring those characteristics to her coaching as well. We missed her leadership when she was out last fall, so I’m happy she will be involved again. I know her presence will make us a better team.”

The RSEQ indoor soccer season started last week and the Stingers picked up a 2-2 tie with the Carleton Ravens in their first game last Sunday. This week they travel to Trois-Rivières, Que. to face the UQTR Patriotes. Their first home game is Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in the Stinger Dome.
