Members of the Concordia Stingers were presented $32,000 in recruitment bursaries by the Aléo Foundation at an awards event honouring the top student-athletes who chose to pursue their sports and academics at Quebec universities in 2022-23.
Mathieu Bizier (men’s hockey), Anna-Bianca Stevens-Cardin (women’s soccer) and Quentin Bourgeais (men’s soccer) each earned $10,000 Québec Government university recruitment bursaries. They will receive $2000 a year for a maximum of five years.
Alexandra-Anne Boyer of the women’s hockey team received a $2,000 Aléo Special Bursary as a student-athlete who began her university sports career at an institution outside of the province and who has returned to Québec. She used two years of eligibility at University of Connecticut before joining the Stingers this season.
Bizier is from Sainte-Claire, Que. and comes to Concordia from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he was a standout with the Gatineau Olympiques. The talented forward is studying Athletic Therapy.
Stevens-Cardin is a Montrealer who had an exceptional career at Vanier College before joining the Stingers. The goalkeeper is enrolled in the university’s Computer Science program.
Bourgeais is a Longueuil, Que. resident who had great success as a midfielder at Collège Ahuntsic. He is currently studying Italian at Concordia.
Boyer is defender from St. Constant, Que. She is studying Management in the John Molson School of Business.
