Women’s rugby:
Women’s rugby took the 22-15 win in a close game vs. the Montréal Carabins on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Back Sarah Scott, hooker Hannah Booler, prop Steve Kalaydjian, and back row Éadaoin Murthaugh each scored a try. Women’s rugby is ranked third in the RSEQ with a 3-1 record and 15 points.
Men’s soccer:
The Stingers extended their winning streak to four games in Quebec City on Friday, Sept. 20 after a 2-0 victory against the Laval Rouge et Or with goals by forward Aymane Mekkaoui and defender Lundon Durand Browne.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, the Stingers faced the UQAM Citadins at home. Midfielder Olivier Roy opened the scoring in the second half to give the Stingers a 1-0 lead. UQAM scored shortly after, which resulted in a tie game. Goalkeeper Jordy Kerlegrand made 14 saves. Men’s soccer remains second in the RSEQ with a 4-1-1 record and 13 points.
Women’s soccer:
Following a 2-0 loss on the road against the Laval Rouge et Or on Sept. 20, women’s soccer came up big at home on Sunday, Sept. 22 to beat the UQAM Citadins 2-0.
After a quiet first half, forward Rachel Vermaire put the Stingers on the board two minutes into the second half. She scored her second goal of the game 20 minutes later and secured the 2-0 win. Vermaire was named the Stingers’ MVP of the game.
Football:
Stingers football impressive fourth-quarter performance fell just short of a comeback against the McGill Redbirds at Homecoming 24. Quarterback Caleb Faulkner scored a touchdown on a run early in the fourth followed by a receiving touchdown by El-André Abbey from quarterback Olivier Roy followed by a safety brought the game to a final score of 21-17 for the Redbirds.
Stingers linebacker Samuel Morissette was named RSEQ defensive player of the week after an outstanding game where he finished with seven tackles, four sacks, and five tackles for loss.
After a week on the road where they head to Quebec City to take on Laval, the Stingers will be back at the Concordia Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 5 vs. Sherbrooke in the Shrine Bowl.
