Stinger star Annie Caron celebrated by Canada Soccer Hall of Fame

Former Concordia Stinger standout Annie Caron will be honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame today when it celebrates eight legends of the women’s game via a special video event on its digital channels.

The event marks the 35th anniversary of the first international appearance by the women’s national team. The legends represent the nation’s landmark first decade in international soccer.

Caron, an attacking midfielder from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., was one of six original members from the national team in 1986 that also represented Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Sweden in 1995. She was Canada’s joint goal-scoring leader after the national program’s first six seasons.

In her university days, Caron was the most accomplished soccer player in the history of Concordia University, earning four all-Canadian awards in four seasons (1988-1991). Other accomplishments include being named Quebec conference MVP and leading the province in scoring.

She was the cornerstone of a talented team that reached the national championship in 1988, finishing fourth in the nation.

Caron also excelled on the slopes, representing Concordia on the Quebec university ski circuit. She was named the 1990 Concordia Female Athlete of the Year for her success in both sports.

She also returned to Concordia as head coach of the women's soccer program in 1992 and 1993.

Caron graduated from Concordia’s Fine Arts program in 1992 with a BFA, major in Design.
