Seven of nine current and former Concordia Stinger wrestlers brought home medals while representing Canada at the Pan-American Championships in Guatemala City last week.
Competing in the women’s freestyle events, Virginie Kaze-Gascon (55 kg) and Linda Morais (59 kg), the former world champion who wrapped up her Stinger career in 2016, won silver medals. Amanda Savard (65 kg) was a bronze medallist.
Jayd Davis (53 kg) and Alexia Sherland (68 kg) both had fifth-place finishes.
On the men’s side, Jeremy Poirier (92 kg) and Aly Barghout (125 kg) were also silver medallists.
Alumnus Vince De Marinis who won three gold medals at nationals in his university career that wrapped up in 2018, was a bronze medallist. Current Stinger Sam Barmish (79 kg) also earned a bronze medal.
Concordia’s David Zilberman was in Guatemala City as part of the Canadian coaching staff.
More than 180 elite athletes from 16 countries competed in the championship.
