Laurence Beauregard of the women's wrestling team and Alex Moore of the men's wrestling team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 26, 2023.
Beauregard, a fourth-year student-athlete, won a gold medal at the U Sports wrestling championships hosted by University of Alberta in Edmonton on the weekend. Competing at 63 kilos, she defeated Alberta’s Aleah Nickel in the final. She won all three of her preliminary matches to advance to the final.
It was Beauregard’s four appearance at university nationals. She earned bronze medals in 2018 and 2020.
The 25-year-old wrestler from Montreal is enrolled in the John Molson School of Business where she studies Marketing and Accounting.
Moore was named the outstanding male competitor at the U Sports championships on the weekend. Competing at 90 kilos, Moore went undefeated and earned a technical fall win (10-0) over McMaster University’s Howard Moffat in the gold medal match. He outscored his four opponents 43-2 at the competition.
This is the second time Moore has earned the outstanding wrestler award at nationals. The third-year competitor earned a gold medal and the U Sports honour in 2019.
A 25-year-old from Montreal, Moore is studying Management at Concordia.
