Two Stingers women's soccer players earn RSEQ honours

Two members of the Concordia Stingers women's soccer team were on the honour roll when the RSEQ conference announced its 2022 awards on Friday night.

Goalkeeper Bianca Stevens-Cardin was named to the all-rookie team and midfielder Osa Iyare earned a spot on the second all-star team.

In her first year of university soccer, Stevens-Cardin posted a 5-3-1 win-loss-tie record with three shutouts in 810 minutes of play. She allowed 12 goals and had a 1.33 goals-against average.

It’s no surprise that Stevens-Cardin stood out in her rookie campaign. She had an impressive résumé when she joined the Stingers. In her final season at the Cégep level with the Vanier Cheetahs, Stevens-Cardin was named the RSEQ’s top goalkeeper and to the conference all-star team. At the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship last November, Vanier did not give up a goal en route to the gold medal and she was named to the tournament all-star team.

The Montrealer is studying Computer Science at Concordia.

Iyare was the leading scorer on the Concordia roster with three goals and six assists for nine points in 12 games. She ranked fourth in conference scoring.

She joined the Stingers this season after using three years of eligibility in the NCAA at the University of Memphis Tigers and the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. The Montrealer developed her skills with the Lakeshore Soccer Club before heading south.

She is enrolled in the Visual Journalism program, working towards a graduate diploma.
