Stingers shine at wrestling meet

Three gold medals helped the Concordia University men’s wrestling team finish second at its annual invitational tournament at Concordia gym in Montreal on Sunday.

Gabriel Choueke at 52 kilos, Michael Noonan at 72 kilos and Alex Dyas at 90 kilos helped Concordia score 43 points. Scott Schiller with a second-place finish in the 57 kilos weight class, and Serguei Guevorkian at 76 kilos and Ahmed Abo-Mathkoor at 100 kilos with third-place finishes also contributed points.

Black Bears Wrestling Club (BBWC) from Fredericton, N.B. won the tournament with 71 points.

In the women’s competition, the University of Western Ontario finished in first place with 24 points. BBWC was second with 15 points.

On the women’s side, Concordia did not enter any athletes due to injuries.
